How do I force a line break (new line, ...) in to a
displayed column (loaded directly from a table) in a
datawindow? We've tried inserting ~r, ~n, ... in to the
field value, but they display in the column as is.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Jim.

Jim,

If I remember correctly, you have to give the column object enough height
to display all lines.

Agreed on all fronts but not seeing what we expect.

-1- The column is plenty big.
-2- The field value is "Issue Name~rIssue Description".
-3- The datawindow presentation of this value is "Issue
Name~rIssue Description".

We were expecting there to be a line break so it would look
like:

Issue Name
Issue Description

Seems like we are missing something basic here but are
scratching our heads ...

Thanks.

You need ~r~n. You only have ~r.

Are you trying to manually type the literal string "~r" into your
value and expecting a line break?

Yes ... and we've done ~r~n and every other combination
possible.

What about "\n", did you try that? IIRC we used that in the select
statement a DW to build a "block" out of separate columns.

What I mean is, you need a character 0x0A and 0x0D in your field.
Typing the string "~r~n" into a text field doesn't magically convert
what you type. That kind of conversion is only performed automatically
by the compiler when you declare a string constant or the datawindow
expression evaluator.
You could try using the clipboard to copy and paste the characters you
want or perhaps hit <ctrl><enter>. You could add a default button to
the window to paste the characters. Or you could add code to the item
changed event to replace those characters manually.

Agreed ... not sure what happened at our end, but we put a
return "\n" back in to the C Code that is populating the
database and all seems fine.

Thanks for the help.
