There is a feature in our pb9 app to customize/overide a
datawindow by user using a custome PBD for each user.

Do I have to migrate PB9 datawindows to PB11 and recreate
every PBD?

Can I query the pb9 PBD or pb9 datawindow to check in PB11
what version it is?

Is there a way in PB 11 to access a pb9 datawindow in a pb9
PBD and dynamically recreate it for use in PB 11?

I have never had an issue loading an older datawindow into a newer
version of PowerBuilder. Even when you run through the migration
assistant, the source of the datawindows will retain the old version number.

You should not have to migrate your customers' customized PBDs.

I have just tested and I am not able to use a pb9 PBD
datawindow in PB 11. Some version after 9 must have changed
the behavior of which you speak.

I created a new PBL and DW in PB 9.0.1 6533. I created a
PBD.

When I add the PBD to my library list in PB 11.2 8542, A
message:
-One or more PBL's in the library list were created in a
previous version. To view their contents, migrate to the
current version. -

In pb11 I can not see the DW. If I migrate the application,
with the PB9 pbd in the library list, the DW in the PBD DOES
become visible. But in testing it is still not usable. It is
also not usable in PB9 anymore.

WAG - See if you can obtain the datawindow.syntax from the PBD (or maybe
LibraryExport?) and use Create to apply it to a DW control.

unicode is the great divide. anything pb 10 or after is unicode; anything prior is not.
you can export using pb 9 or below and then import it into pb 10+.

Also, you don't need to use a PBD for datawindows - you can use PBLs. just add them with setlibrarylist at runtime.
