I've expanded a field on my database from 35 characters to
120 characters.
Now the entry screen, I get the following message for
entries over 35 characters.
Is there a way to reset this in the datawindow?

Double-check the "Limit" property on the "Edit" tab of the properties pane.

I did change the limit to 120.
The column specification still has it at 35
using PB 10

You can do an "Edit Source" to change the column specification, or you
can do a "fake" change to the SQL statement (add a space at the end) and
see if that regenerates it for you.

Thanks, the fake column on the end did it!

The problem is that the result set definition is derived when the datawindow
is first painted, and its not automatically updated when the underlying
schema changes. I believe you still have to edit that manually...

Edit the source directly, and look for the "column" entry for that specific
column. I'll bet it still reads:
column=(type=char(35) ..."

Change that to
column=(type=char(120) ..."

Save the changes, and you should be good to go.

As Jason said, if PB *thinks* you have made an SQL change, it goes back out
to the DBMS to get the current definition. In syntax mode, type a space then
backspace. In graphics mode, drag the column order and drag it back.
What you DON'T want to do is remove and replace a column - you will lose all
the formatting and expressions.

I've been wanting a "Refresh"-Button to synchronize column definitions
with the DBMS since PB 6.5 (and the "fake column trick" would scramble
the layout when there were left outer joins in graphic mode).

Maybe someone should post a request via ISUG? Or will PB developers read
this?

You should post it on ISUG (and join so you can vote on enhancements) and
also on www.sybase.com to get it into the official pipeline. The newsgroups
are end-user forums - some Sybase employees do read them but posting here is
not going to get it to the right place.
