I need to be able to set a page break on a group based on the user's choice.
Reviewing the newgroup I have seen a suggestion of having 2 datawindows,
modifying the page break value to = TRUE and a creating a computed column. Which
is most programatically correct?

If it's setting the page break value, what is the syntax for it? The only way I
found to do it is SyntaxFromSQL.

If it's a computed column, I'm not very sure I understood the method of using
it.

Thanks for all your help,

J. Lastort

I typically paint a "dummy" column into the result set, base a group on that
column (with break on group change set), and then use SetItem() calls to
control the paging dynamically.

It should also work with a computed field. You would change the expression
to the user's choice of columns or combinations thereof. And remember that
grouping depends on order - SetSort(), Sort() and maybe GroupCalc() will
probably be needed as well.

I'm sorry, but I didn't explain my problem clearly. My users want to be able to
print a report with page breaks or choose to print the same report without page
breaks. I think I can do it via the computed column suggeted, but I am at a lost
as how to code it. Please excuse my ignorance.

Thanks,

J.Lastort

If the computed column or computed field changes (value is a column or
function), the page break on group change for a group on that compute will
result in breaks. If the value is a constant, the whole report is one group,
so you get no page breaks.

Thanks! It worked like a charm. I really appreciate you (and Paul) taking the
time to help me.
