PB 10.5.2, Build 7662
On a grid dw, sometimes we want to add a note in the footer.
However, the grid forces the text object to be the same
width as the column it is 'under'. It needs to be wider
(span more than one column).
Is there any way to so this?
(I tried changing the layer to Foreground, but then the note
appears in the detail band somewhere, and not in the
footer.)

No biggie, just an annoyance.

Yes I think it is possible. But the behaviour isn't ideal.

edit the source of the datawindow change processing=1 to processing=0
edit the datawindow and resize your column
edit source and change back to processing="1"

For a report you can always add the grid as a subreport, but that
forces you to use print preview mode when viewing it.

Change the layer to 'foreground', set the size as you need, and then set
the layer back again to 'band'. That works for me (at least in older PB
versions).

Well, neither one worked like I had hoped. The text got
resized to the column width either way.
Was able to 'split' the text into two objects, one
right-justified and the other left-justified to get it to
work.

Thanks.

I've done it by setting the X,Y coordinates of the text box
programmatically. The box has to be in foreground. It's not pretty, but it
works.
