DDDW and itemchanged

When a user choose a different value in a DDDW the
itemchanged event is triggered, however if the user click on
the arrow but does not choose a different value ( keep the
same value) itemchanged is not triggered which is
understandable because nothing has changed.
But that is exactly my problem, I need to know when the user
hasn't changed the value.
Any solution to this is greatly appreciated.

You'd need to trap the collapsing of the DDDW and then check that the value
hadn't changed. This article has one technique:
