PB 10.5.2, Build 7662
Column is 'int,null' in database.
Edit dw displays nothing in the edit window (as it should).
User enters 1 or 0 or something.
Then wants to set the entry back to null.
If you just delete the entry, you get a '...does not pass
validation error'.
You can put in a 0 and be successful, but user would rather
not having 0's showing up all over the place.
How to set the value back to null in the DW?
Must be some simple way, just never had to try it before.

I don't think that was added until PB 11.2.

IIRC it's been there since at least PB 6.5, in PB 9.0 I checked it's on
the Edit tab.

Actually I seem to recall it was there in 3.0a. But it's never been on

As indicated, I was thinking the question (and the answer) were related to
the retrieval arguments dialog, not the datawindow itself.

Here is the example from the datawindow ItemError event. It
works great. I use it on all my datawindows.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
PowerBuilder The following excerpt from an ItemError event
script of a DataWindow control allows the user to blank out
a column and move to the next column. For columns with data
types other than string, the user cannot leave the value
empty (the empty string doesn't match the data type). If the
user tried to leave the value blank, this code sets the
value of the column to a NULL value of the appropriate data
type.string ls_colname, ls_datatype
ls_colname = dwo.Name
ls_datatype = dwo.ColType
// Reject the value if non-blank
IF Trim(data) <> "" THEN
RETURN 0
END IF
// Set value to null if blank
CHOOSE CASE ls_datatype
CASE "long"
integer null_num
SetNull(null_num)
This.SetItem(row, ls_colname, null_num)
RETURN 3
CASE "date"
date null_date
SetNull(null_date)
This.SetItem(row, ls_colname, null_date)
RETURN 3
// Additional cases for other data types
END CHOOSE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

KM

Newsgroups -> Select from dropdown? Just says: 'We're
sorry, this page is no longer available or cannot be found
in this specific site.' Had to go through MySybase to get
to the newsgroup.)

Not sure - I use Outlook Express as my newsreader... I'll send a notice to
our IT group about it.
