Hi,

I am wondering if the Adaptive Server Anywhere 9.0.2 (32-bit
version) is ONLY supported by 32-bit windows Operating
Syatem?

Can it be run by 64-bit windows? What is the problem if so?

Thanks,
Linda

Linda,

Windows x64 can run 32-bit applications. There is no issue, aside from
the fact that you cannot access cache sizes bigger than ~1.8 GB (without
AWE extensions - see the "-cw" switch:
http://dcx.sybase.com/1100en/dbadmin_en11/cw-database-dbserver.html )
due to the limitation imposed by 32-bit addressing. Moving to 64-bit
software will allow you to access larger memory spaces without the AWE
extensions. (You can access ~2.8GB by using the "/3GB" switch in the
boot.ini configuration on Windows, see:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124810.aspx ).

Also note the subtleties of working with 32-bit software on a 64-bit
operating system. There are *two* ODBC administrators, one that deals
with 32-bit ODBC sources, and the other 64-bit sources. (See:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124810.aspx for more
information). Your 32-bit DSNs will appear only when launching the ODBC
Administrator from:

C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your info.

In general, Windows x64 can run 32-bit applications. Can I
run/deploy the database built by Adaptive Server Anywhere
9.0.2 (32-bit version) to a Windows x64 OS machine? Any
issue, concern or problem that I should address except cache
sizes and ODBC DSNs?

Thanks in advance!
Linda

Yes, ASA 9.0.2 supports 64-bit Windows. You are recommended to run the latest EBF for ASA 9.0.2 with
64-bit Windows. All supported platform information can be found here:

Hi Joshua,

ASA 9.0.2 provides both 32-bit and 64-bit version software.

(1) Can a database, which is built by ASA 9.0.2 32-bit
version software under 32-bit operating system, is run under
64-bit windows operating system?

(2) What is the impact or problem if "Yes" to (1)?

(2) Where is the latest EBF for ASA 9.0.2? Can I download
from somewhere?

Thank you!

Linda

Linda,

1) Yes.

2) There is no performance impact. However you are limited to 32-bit process sizes. Cache size is
limited to approximately 1.8 GB, where are the 64-bit process is limited by physical memory on the
machine.

3) The EBF can be found at downloads.sybase.com
