Does anyone know how this works?
Bruce had mentioned this in his PBDJ techwave overview ramblings ;-)
It is the first I've heard of it.

I asked Sue Dunnell about this at Techwave. She said that it is available
and to contact her directly. I don't need it myself so I didn't get anymore
details.

I've followed this up.
Each of you need to speak with a Sybase sales rep.
I'll facilitate in that I'll find who your regional sales reps are,
then, if you wish, monitor the process.

Please let me know where each of you who are interested are based.

Thank you.

Does this mean that you can embed the painter in your application?

This should be included with PB Enterprise and would be the number one
benefit in any of the Powerbuilder Upgrades. The time to try and add
revenue through InfoMaker has passed. I've had this as the NUMBER ONE
upgrade setup for 10 years.

I agree with Richard on this. A seamless integration with the DW
painter (or portion of) in lieu of InfoMaker in the Enterprise version
is a must and long over due. Less headache for us, a better solution
for the customer, and one less tired application Sybase needs to support.

Randy

PS - And we would be willing to pay a little extra for this!

FYI, we have been shipping our software with FlxReport
http://www.felix.fr/produits/flxReport/flxReport.cfm that provides the
end-user to customize and create datawindows from existing datawindows. This
has been one of the best features of our software. User has been able to
create reports etc according to their specs.

It has almost all the features and customization available as a DW. I
believe it is a MUST have for any PB application.

Can you put the flxReport control directly into a PB application or does
it run as a stand-alone application?

For design and previewing we have it running as a seperate application
(invoked from within our application).
For runtime > apply the new DW design (customization) in our application it
is integrated with our application. There are integration libraries that you
can add to your library list.

If it does become available...how will it become available? Will it be a
separate product? Will we have to wait for a future PB release?

Not to jump the gun but...

This "product" doesn't currently exist.

The anecdotal history is that we had a customer who
wanted this functionality that we don't yet provide.
They were considering whether it was feasible to do
the work themselves to "fit" the DW painter into their application...
...if we released the code.
That exploration did not bear fruit.

The current point under discussion is whether it's feasible to
provide this functionality in tandem with a future version of PowerBuilder
(the capability of having a DW painter in your own PowerBuilder
application).

The current alternative is OEMing InfoMaker as a separate IDE
and shipping it with your application.

John,

Is this a dead idea or are you still considering it?

This idea is tabled until after PowerBuilder 12 is released.
We then intend to examine whether it's feasible to
OEM the WPF DataWindow Painter that will be in
PowerBuilder .NET.
