I'm using Window XP SP3 and PB 10.2

I want to make my printed datawindow grids looking better.

The problem is that there is no space, kind of indent,
between a vertical grid line and the left/right-aligned
column text.
Is there any option to control/adjust this?

This is in priciple also a problem on screen, but when using
grey lines I can live with it.

I you compare to Excel grid text you can see that there the
left/right aligned text is not "glued" to the vertical grid
line.

regards

Hi Thomas,

I'm not sure if it is documented behaviour but
sometimes I use a blank in the format of a
datawindow column to achieve what you want.
For instance for right-aligned number you can
use "0 " instead of "0", for left-aligned strings
" [general]" works. Of course the will not work
if the data is bigger than the column and cutted.

Hi Chris

Thanks for your response. It works.
But I must admit, that I had hoped for a more setup-like
solution.

Whether I will go through all my DWs by hand or fix it in a
u_dw function I have yet to decide.

regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

A third possibility is to write a little application which
changes all datawindows in your libraries. You could
use libraryExport() and libraryImport() for that.

Hi Terry

I'm not sure what enhancement you would like:
1: That Chris' tip is documented as the proper way to handle
this.
2: Grid DWs should always have this small "indent", or
should it be optional?

I think the enhancment should be:
Have an explicit setting, in the units of the datawindow (PB units, pixels) for the size of left/right indent.
It is a right indent if right justified, a left indent if left justified, not effect if centered or full justified.

Full justification may be something that others would want to have indent values for both left and right (makes sense to me), but I
don't think I have ever used this in a datawindow field...

This should work regardless of the edit style

Yes, that's exactly what I had in mind for the enhancement suggestion.
