Lars,

The probably biggest change from version 9 to 11 is the rebuild of the
databases to the new format. All of this is in our documentation:

Changes in 11:

Upgrading to 11:
http://dcx.sybase.com/1100en/sachanges_en11/v10upgrade.html

Rebuilding databases from 9 to 11:

As a 'user' point of view - I have just moved serveral DB's
from v8 (Netware) to v11(Windows) - this involved unloading
v8 to v9 first, then v9 to v11 - several DB's were involved
and, apart from one table, no problems - the whole operation
less than half a day to complete! Biggest chore was changing
Netware paths to windows paths.... So far all running fine

Hi,
I have created a CMD-File which should automaticly convert
our sybase 9 DB to Version 11. It calls DbUnload with the
parameters -c and -an. It starts working and towards the end
(after "creating new Database") it displays an error message
"***** SQL-Error: violation of the authentification rules"
(translated from German). Can anybody tell me what the
problem is and how to solve it? Thanks. :-)

Ciao
Lars

Some additional information:
- the old db is not write-protected
- the connect parameters are correct
- using the "Unload Database Wizard" in Sybase Central 11
produces the same (!) error

Help! ;-)

Chris Keating has already answered this question in the sybase.public.sqlanywhere.general newsgroup
under the posting "Error SQLE_AUTHENTICATION_VIOLATION when updating from 9 to 11". Please review
his latest response there for methodologies when upgrading the OEM version of the database.

If you are an OEM, you are required (generally) to deploy with the
authenticated edition. You can also develop with it without difficulty
provided that your connections are authenticated, the database is
authenticated, and you are running with at least the first EBF patch if
using SA11.0.0 (there was an issue with the java Admin tools). The step
that I think you are missing is the database authentication process (via
the authenticate.sql). If you feel that you are not required to use the
OEM edition, please contact your sales rep who can discuss this with you.
