While attempting to simply open any object in my Workspace, PB crashes with
the error above.

I was just working with the same objects that are causing the abend earlier
this week without incident.

Note: I'm unable to apply any future patches/maint. releases until I can
resolve errors I'm receiving in version 10.0. The errors pertain to other
objects in my app and will need to wait until an enhancement I'm putting in
for a project due April 1st is completed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
Dan

Hi Dan;

I suspect its from a corrupt painter layout.

Can you ...

1) Shutdown PB
2) Start RegEdit.exe
3) Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder\10\Layout
4) Delete all the entries under the "layout" folder
5) Restart the PB IDE

HTH

Chris,

The only entry is 'default'. Are you suggesting I delete this, or were you
expecting entries other than default?

Thanks

The abort could be related to your lack of access rights to the registry.

Yes, PB needs "local admin" rights.

It's Armstrong's policy to not allow us Admin rights. I just verified that
I do have authority to edit the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER with my
permissions. It's just the default entries I can't delete.

This was working previously with my not having admin rights. We have
another developer who uses PB 10.2 regularly with just an occational/rare
abort. He does not have admin rights either.

Any other suggestions?

There's 1 entry in Layout. It's type 'REG_SZ'. I get the error: "Unable to
delete all specified values."

I don't have admin rights on this machine and suspect that's why I can't
delete it. I'm having an admin do this and will report back.

Thanks Chris.

Make sure that you are looking in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" section *NOT* the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". They have the same structure but there will be no
entries in the Layout folder under the LocalMachine branch of the registry.

Hi Dan;

Another thought ...

It could also be a corrupt PB Library somewhere. I would suggest that
after you open the PB IDE - select each PBL in the WorkSpace/Target list
using the right-mouse and then select "optimize" from the resulting pop-up
menu. After you have optimized all the libraries - shut PB down and restart
it. Now see if you can open any objects.

I've successfully optimized all 14 PBL's assigned to the target and
restarted PB. It's still aborting when I attempt to open an object.

Hmmmm .... does this object have ancestors?
If so, could these have been modified lately and some dependant
object/property changed or removed?

Can you export a troublesome object ... delete the object .. then import the
object source and see what happens with this type of complete
reconstruction?
(I would back up the library first though).

Good Morning Chris.

Yes, the window uses an ancestor, although it has not been changed.

I did attempt your suggestion anyway and PB crashed on the import of the
objects source. I'm restoring the PBL. Note: I cannot open any of my
objects.

I'm hoping to get admin rights this morning to see if it resolves anything.
If that doesn't do the trick, unless you have another suggestion, I'm going
to re-install PB10.

Thanks again. Your quick responses and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Dan

Hmmm ... sounds more like fully corrupted PBLs.
Do you have a full backup somewhere of the application?

I hope it is just a "rights" issue - but this does not explain the sudden
problems you are having and why you could access the system objects before!

The first un-install/re-install did not fix the problem.

Prior to my second re-install, and after the un-install:
I deleted all Sybase, PB, and SQL Anywhere registry entries, because I do
not have anything else related to Sybase loaded on my machine. I also
deleted the folder C:\Program Files\sybase, emptied the recycle bin, then
re-booted.

The 2nd re-install worked and all looks good so far.

Thanks again.

Root Cause likely: 10.2 folder was still in my registry while I was running
on version 10.2.

I say this due to the Error Report files were all named with
'_appcompat.txt' as part of the file name. I have attached one of them.
The file was determined by following the links on the Abort window:
"For more information about this error, click here."
Then from the Sybase PowerBuilder 10.0 window:
"To view technical information about the error report, click
here"
The next window displays the file name and it's contents.
