When I try to open a datawindow in Powerbuilder 11.5 (3127) IDE - I crash
and it complains about msvcr71.dll. This worked last week and the file has
not changes and it is installed correctly. I can open other datawindow
without issues. This one does have a stored procedure.

I have attached the error file that it created when it asks to send error.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

Sometimes PB gets funky when the painter layout changes.
Try deleting the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder\11.5\Layout\Default\Datawindow

Then restart PB.

Ok - deleted the key. restarted PB.... same crash issue.
Also re-booted pc and it still crashed.

Tried importing the PB 6.5 version and to see if I can open it. Still
crashes.

This start happening this week. My PC's does have the latest patches to
WINDOWS XP Pro (5.1.2600.5512 - XP SP3). But we tried to open the same file
on another developers PC with PB 11.5 (3127) and it crashed. He even
re-installed PB 11.5 with the 3127 ebf and it CRASHED. Now here is
something though. , before he installed the ebf 3127 - working with PB 11.5
2506 he was able to open the DW. I have been working with the build 3127
for several months (like Oct. 2008 when it was released) and it worked fine
up until today.

I can open up other DW's with no issues.

I have attached the pb 6.5 version srd file.

Any other ideas?

Hi Thomas;

That is definitely a PB 11.5 bug. I can import it into PB 10.5.2 and
11.2 with no problems and it opens up OK in the DW painter. Even exporting
the DWO from PB 11.2 (where it works fine) and over to 11.5 then crashes the
IDE on open. I would report this to technical support for sure! :-(

Hi Thomas;

I found that it was the Validation expression on the "dummy" column that
takes the DW painter (and PB IDE) down in PB 11.5.

If you remove this expression ...
f_printer_production_detail( String(FROM_DATE, 'mm/dd/yyyy' ) ,
String(TO_DATE, 'mm/dd/yyyy') , printer_id )

The DWO opens up OK. Without this global function - I can not diagnose your
problem any further.

BTW: See DWO source for PB 11.5 attached.

HTH

Chris,

Your version (your attachment) worked. Now I tried to duplicate your change
(removing the function in the dummy column validation area)and I still blow
up. I also noticed you changed the release from 6 to 11.5. I also tried
that and it still blew up. Has your system been updated with ALL Microsoft
patches (including XP SP3), I have been going through a system re-stores
thinking it was a Windows Update that might have caused the issue. But I
have restored all the way back to 3/09/2009 and still the same problem
(except with your change).

Now the question is, can't we call functions in the validation area of a
column in PB 11.5 (3127)? Now remember this has been working since Oct.
2008 when I put the EBF patch on and it stopped working as of yesterday. So
far I have scanned my one app and there are 40 objects that have this and
the function is different for each. Now I have noticed that the function
parameters are datetime fields and some of the datawindows that have the
function in the dummy column validation field do not have a datetime
parameter - these work fine. It's the ones that have a datetime parameter.

Now to throw a twist, I just tried to open another datawindow (see
attachment) that has no function call or a dummy column and it blows up. I
did notice that it is a Stored Proc (like the rest) and there is a datetime
parameter.

Maybe it has to deal with the datetime. Didn't the Daylight savings (the
old way) always start at the end of March? Maybe the msvcr71.dll file that
Sybase ships with powerbuilder is too old? The date on mine is

C:\Program Files\Sybase\Shared\PowerBuilder
Create: 3/11/2008 9:16:10am
Modified: 2/21/2003 9:42:22pm
Accessed: 3/31/2009 12:34:46pm

340kb (348,160 bytes)

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Thomas;

BTW: I fixed the DWO in PB 11.2 and then exported it to PB 11.5. Then I
used the Edit Source option to change the release= parameter in PB 11.5.
That is how I got you the version I attached.

Yes, I am running on XP SP3 and Vista SP1.

I think the problem is more to do with PB 11.5 and how it tried to
handle the global function call in the validation expression.

I would concur that the PB EBF probably caused your dilemma.

The "msvcr71.dll" file I have installed automatically in my System32
folder is ...
XP => 340K 2003-02-21
Vista => 340K 2003-02-21

Note: I do not use or deploy the Sybase versions of the MSVC*.dll files.
Instead, I always use the O/S's.

Just called to open a case with Sybase (11519783) for this issue.

I actually used a PB 11.1 version and opened the DW and DID NOT remove the
function. I just saved it. Then exported it and imported into PB 11.5
(3127). Then I just opened the DW (no changes to the release - even though
PB 11.1 most of changed it to release = 11) and it worked. So it allows the
functions to be used in the validation expression of the 'dummy' column but
PB 11.5 does not like it when you migrate from PB 6.5 straight to PB 11.5.
It seems if I would have migrated to PB 11.1 first and then migrate to PB
11.5 it will probably work.

But what is strange, this all started yesterday. Before yesterday all was
fine. The only updates to my system were Windows Patches, .Net Frame
Patches, Adobe Reader patch, and Java Patches. But I have since restored my
system back to 3/9/09 and the problem still is there.

Very interesting.

Now is a good one.

I did finally here back from Sybase and they are escalating the case since
it is crashing their Powerbuilder IDE too. They needed to go all the way
back to 10.2 to finally get it to open. Hopefully a fix will be done
quickly.
