Hello,

I was wondering if it would be possible to move the Server up one level.
That being, a server is only a set of resources allocated to it which may
given out or plugged into by logical servers that are actually running atop
the actual physical ASE server.

So, would it be possible for ASE to support multiple network aliases which
are actually different servers that reside atop the one physical ASE
server?

PHYSICAL SERVER NAME: SYBS0001
LOGICAL SERVER NAME: ASEL0001
LOGICAL SERVER NAME: ASEL0002
LOGICAL SERVER NAME: ASEL0003

Where ASEL0001, ASEL0002, ASEL0003 are all physical servers in the sense
that you would think of today. They can allocate resources from the
physical ASE server SYBS0001 as necessary or as given. I would think this
would yield better performance on systems where multiple ASE servers are
run because of like database names.

I don't think that I understand you, since what you describe is roughly what
happens. Therefore I have not understood. Each server can have multiple
network listeners. Multiple engines allows for the allocating of
resources. What does this buy ASE???

I'll try and go into more detail. I would like to have 1 server that can
have multiple servers that run atop it. These servers can have databases
then of the same name.

So, 1 server to manage resources of all servers that run atop this one.
Lets call it SYBS0001

1st server running atop of SYBS0001 has a database named abcd
2nd server running atop of SYBS0001 has a database named abcd
3rd server running atop of SYBS0001 has a database named abcd

Okay, I do not have to have 3 seperate ASE servers or ASE instances running
to manage the three databases whose names must be the same. Maybe it is a
vendor package or for testing systems.

Basically to mix some terminology from other database vendors I would not
be looking to create a tablespace, but a database space that can have
multiple databases that can be brought online/offline from a single ASE
server instance. I could have then multiple different database spaces that
have databases with the same name.

Hope this helps.
Let me know,
Thanks.
