Hello,

we have installed 11.0.3. on an NT4.0 server and now we want to install
11.9.2. on the same server for testing. Is that possible maybe by changing
the environment variables, so that we can switch between the versions ?

Thanks,

Martin

if you go out to Microsoft, they have a tech doc somewhere that tells you how
to run batch files as services. Batch files are pretty much what you need to
change environment variable, such as $SYBASE and $PATH. I used to use this
when I supported DirectConnect and ASE. I only had 1 NT box for a bit and
wanted to keep the installations separate. Worked like a charm. Sent it to
clients frequently. Sorry I don't have a URL, but just do a quick search on
it at Microsoft's site....

HTH,

Pete

well.... I'll tell you how I do it. I need to have multiple versions readily
available for bug-fixing purposes, and need to switch between them quickly. I
find the NT SUBST command invaluable for this purpose.

SUBST creates a new drive-letter pointing to a directory on your hard disk. So
I have the various versions in separate directories, and SUBST a drive (I use
Y:) to whichever directory holds the version I am working on today. My
environment variables reference Y: and my path includes Y:\sybase\bin and
Y:\sybase\dll so I always pick up the right versions of things. I even get the
right master device for each version as these are held in Y:\sybase\data. When
I want to switch versions I simply SUBST Y: to another directory.

This approach may not suit everyone, but it's great for switching quickly
between environments on a test machine.

cheers,
tonyi
