Hello,

I have two servers:

1. Production server running 3 9.02 databases
2. Dev/Support server running 11 9.02 databases

Then, I have my Dev machine which doesn't really run any databases. Can I
uninstall my entire 9.02 Sybase installation, and install the 11.01 Sybase
installation on my Dev machine and still use SJCVIEW and ISQL to modify the
layouts, browse, change security, view data and all the other development
things I need to do to these 9.02 databases?

I usually do start/run/scjview ... if I need both copies, then I will have
to make sure I always open the right one, and more importantly, SCJVIEW does
not open under WINDOWS 7 (java bomb) so that would mean I wouldn't have
access to any 9.02 database and we need support 9.02 databases because we
will have > 150 of these in the field and use this when we review customer
databases sent to us.

Thanks.

Hi Robert,

You can connect to and administer version 9 and later databases running on
version 9 and later database servers from a version 11 Sybase Central.
Do you happen to have a stack trace for the scjview crash?

thanks,

You may not need to uninstall. I can run both on my
XP machine so they can run side-by-side (your woes
notwithstanding). I can also connect to older database
server from my 11.0.1 SCJView with no known problems.
Further I have connected to V11.0.1 from the 9.0.2
plug-ins as well. <with caveats of course>

Of course I am only talking about using the tree-view
navigation and detail panes of the database server plug-in
and their properties. Some of the wizards for the utilities
will not be expected to work due to the file format
differences. So leaving V9 installed is a good idea if you
use those wizards a lot.

If you have not done so, start a thread on the bombing
JVM issue.
