Hi all,

I'm new around here, so please excuse me if I'm posting in a wrong group
and/or my question is obvious.

We have a medical device (System Chemistry VITROS DT60 II) which came
with a software (called BioLis).

Unfortunately, the operator of the computer on which is software
installed cannot explain how (you know, the classical "I didn't change
anything" (TM) - user which doesn't know much things about how computers
work btw) but suddenly the program refused to work with the following
message (copy/pasted):

---------------------------
Advantage Database Server
---------------------------
Advantage Database Server error! A registered copy of the Advantage
Database Server is already running on a server on the network.
Additional copies must be purchased in order to run multiple copies
simultaneously on the same network.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

...which is the Error Code 7044.

We tried to disable the network connection and/or unplug the LAN cable
and restarted the PC but the message continued, so isn't exactly the
problem with the network. Also, we tried to stop any service on that
machine which we could stop (without freezing the OS) in order to make
things work, but no success.

...after digging a little, we discovered the ADS installation (it seems
that the above program uses it as embedded DB engine) - we don't use it
anywhere for our Delphi programs, we have Firebird as our DB backend -
and there we discovered something which is like a configuration GUI for
the server. The values from there are:

ADS Version: 7.0

Install Info: <blank all>
Config utility:
Comms: IP Port: 0
Internet Port: 0
Semaphore: <unchecked>
Client Timeout: 240
Compression: Internet
Misc: Worker threads: 8
Size of Error log: 1000

[Defaults applied]

We try to avoid reinstalling the program because we must send the
computer back at medical company HQ which is very far from the place
where are located. And not only this, but reinstalling implies a big
hurdle for us because we have a lot of personal data on that box which
we don't want to go outside.

Also we mention that we didn't fiddle with the installation in any way
(at least not conscientiously :-)) neither we played 'wild games' on the
above computer.

Can someone help us?

(As an aside, the 'Install Info' section shouldn't show some data like a
license number etc.?)

TIA,

--

m. Th.
