Utilizing the new RichText Edit Style feature has a bug.
When you set the edit style to RichText it truncates the
results. I am using a Text data type on the DBMS and in
Edit mode on the DataWindow column it returns the RTF data
which can be copied/pasted into a text file and it displays
the whole document, but when I set the column edit style
type to RichText the results gets truncated. The total size
of the data is 7781 characters long which the column on the
DataWindow has a limit of 63999 characters and does not
exceed this amount. We upgraded to the newest EBF but this
did not solve the problem. I am hoping the next EBF release
includes a fix for this feature.

The RTF format is very verbose. I believe if you look at the amount
of actual data that you are attempting to store, not just the number
of characters of actual text, you'll find that you're hitting your
63999 character limit.

No the size I stated is true. I created the file from the
data that is being truncated within the DataWindow and it is
7,781 bytes. Sorry I said character I meant byte. This is
a problem and we are waiting for Sybase to fix (hopefully in
next release). Attached is the file generated from the
database.

Take another look. I just saved that file out as an RTF file. I
renamed the extension as TXT so that Word or WordPad wouldn't try to
open it. This file has 43.5 K of RTF data (44,601 bytes). It may
even be more than that when PB handles it because of PB handling it as
a Unicode string. I wouldn't be able to determine that without
setting up a test app that used your data and/or seeing a dbtrace from
your app.

I have talked with Sybase in the past and explained the problem to
them (it's even more of an issue with Oracle where the largest
varchar2 field you can access is 4000 bytes). It's not a bug though,
it's a limitation of the current design which they are aware of.

If you need to handle more data than that, you might want to consider
using SelectBlob/UpdateBlob to handle the data and putting that into a
"real" RTF control, not the DataWindow RTF column.

Bruce,

I followed what you did and my size increased to 18,651
bytes which still is less than 63,999 bytes. When storing
in the database our size is the 7,781 bytes (we do not have
unicode turned on). In my option this is still a problem,
especially since as a developer I have no clue we are
getting at the limit of what can be displayed. With the
size of this file I am still less than the limit but my
DataWindow display is being truncated. We are primarily
using this for a print feature which includes a formated
document if available. Some documentation with examples on
determining the limit would be a big help from Sybase if
this is not a bug. Our problem is we have no way of knowing
our limits.

Not what I wanted to hear but I understand and our
development team will figure a way around it. Thanks for
