PB 10.5.2

Can anyone tell me if there is a column limit from a database into the
datawindow?

I am using Sybase ASE for this project, and I am revising a proc that
already sends in 73 columns! The revisions I have to make would require many
more columns. I need to know if it is even a possibility, or else it would
require a rewrite to handle the output differently.

Thanks,

Jason Lipman

I don't think so, one of our nasty datawindows I've just looked at has
275 columns.

I don't know of any explicit limit, but you might run into memory problems
at some point. Sounds unwieldy, if the design is getting creaky you might
want to consider that.

Actually this is wrong, this NEVER was or worked like that :-).
There was (possibly still is) a 32K limit on the SQL portion of the
datawindow, so essentially depending on the flavor of the sql you would
aroung 300 columns +-...

I have some DW's with a lot more than 300 columns.

BTW: My numbers are complier limits - not practical ones. :-)

As I said, depending on the flavor of the SQL, etc.

We are NOT talking about the SQL ... we are talking about what the DW object
can handle (or at least I thought that was the premise of the original
thread from Jason was)! :-)

Err, here is the OP question:

>Can anyone tell me if there is a column limit from a database into the
>datawindow?

SQL brings them from the database to the datawindow (in the majority of
straighforward cases). THAT is the limit I am talking about - on the LENGTH
of the SQL syntax portion of the datawindow syntax.

Exactly what the OP said ... "Column limit" => i.e. the projection maximum
in an SQL statement.

I did not think about it in the terms of the length of the overall SQL
syntax ... Hmmm, another interesting question (limitation). I have no idea
on that one from the DW object's POV!
