We are using ASE 12.5.4. Can anyone know if data packets are
encrypted between client and server over network

Or

they transmitted with plain text?

Do we have any config params to change this behavior?

Thanks,
Naveen.

By default, there is no encryption for the client-server communication. You
can use SSL to achieve this (requires one of the license options ASE_ASM or
ASE_SECDIR).

SSL will encrypt the entire packets as will using Kerberos and when
using "confidentiality" feature. The password can be separately
encrypted with the password encryption features when requested. e.g.
isql -X or thru api calls e.g. ctlib property CS_SEC_ENCRYPTION.
