Hi
I am using ASE 15.0.2 on Linux and all devices are reside on
single LUN on netApp storage.
(system devies and user devices)

My question is regarding master databse
What is the best practise from Sybase for snapshot,
including master or not?

The master database is already on that LUN,
should I include master database in the quiesce command or
not before the snap create command?

Thanks
Yaniv

I've used this technique on a SAN a few years ago - yes, master was
included. Obviously you want to do this at a time when there is minimal
activity on the server, as everything can stop if you can't write to the
logs.

Do NOT quiesce tempdb or any other temp databases - there is no need (they
are recreated at boot time), and quiescing them can have a side effect of
hanging the server if there is activity in tempdb...

Hi

The problem/ my concerns for including master db in the
quiesce
that if the storage snap fails and the databases are still
hold(including master) i can not login to release it...
I will test it by adding another login, give him different
default database (that is not quiesce ) such as tempdb,
quiesce the databases and try to login(when master is hold)

Yaniv,
If that is possible, have fun... I hope you are testing this on a non-production system.
Please report your findings.
