Hello,

I am using Sybase SQL Anywhere 11, build 2250. I would like
to redistribute dbisql.exe along with database engine.

At first, I have followed the required files, registry etc.
as described in documents but it won't work, no error just
beep sound.

http://dcx.sybase.com/1100en/dbprogramming_en11/pg-deploy-win-step2.html

Then I used 'Deployment Wizard' by including all options.
After I install that file in installed machine. I still
could not start running dbisql.exe or dbisql.com. I don't
see any error, just the beep sound.

Any suggestions on this are appreciated.

Thanks,
Sudarat.

Hi Sudarat,

1. Interactive SQL is not necessarily part of your deployment license -
you should check your deployment agreement/sales representative to
ensure that this is "okay" to do.

2. You can also use "dbisqlc" instead of "dbisql" - this is simpler to
deploy, since it doesn't require the Java environment:

http://dcx.sybase.com/1100en/dbprogramming_en11/deploy-s-6007625.html
http://dcx.sybase.com/1100en/dbprogramming_en11/pg-deploy-ifesc.html

3. I would double-check to ensure you have followed the documentation
carefully and have set up the appropriate directory structure for dbisql.

4. You can run "dbisql -batch" which will create a "dbisql.bat" file in
the current directory. You can edit this file in a text-editor to see
which command we are trying to run underneath the covers. Ensure that
all of the files/paths can be located, and try running the command
manually in a Command Prompt to see if you have a different outcome.

Regards,

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply with more information.

The dbisql.exe is always be part of our deployment since
previous version of sybase. I believed that it should be
fine.

I have checked all files. It seems that I have included all
files, including files for JRE in Sun\JRE160_x86.. I create
dbisql.bat as you suggested and make sure that all files and
directories are there. But it still does not work.

However, the same installation (created from Deployment
wizard with all options) works fine with another computer
having JRE 6 update 14 installed. I noticed that the
non-working computer does not have JRE installed. After I
install the JRE 6 update 17 in the non-working computer. The
dbisql.com works now. However if I run dbisql.bat which will
use JRE from what I install from Sybase in Program files\SQL
Anywhere 11\Sun..., it won't work.

Do I need to install JRE downloading from Sun separately in
order to make dbisql.com work? Why cann't I use the JRE from
SQL Anywhere 11\Sun directory.

Any more suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Sudarat.
