We are running sql anywhere 8. I Use the dbsrv8.exe to
start the server and it starts fine. However, when i try to
start the service "Adaptive Server Anywhere - mtrs8" in the
services.msc I get an error saying " Could not start the
Adaptive Server Anywhere - mtrs8 service on Local Computer.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

Thanks for your help.

Can you provide the engine parameters for this service.

Is there a reference to a file (or other) that is not local (on a
network share or UNC Mapping). If so, this is the likely cause as LOCAL
SYSTEM account (the default for services) does not have access to
network resources. And note that the database file should not be run
remotely.

Hi thanks for your reply,

I found the problem, my .bat script was wrong. I've
corrected the line to say... dbsvc -as -w mtrs8 dbsrv8 -c
50m c:\sql8\mtrs8.db

However, when i go into services.msc and try to start the
Adaptive service I get a different message now.
"The Adaptive Server Anywhere - mtrs8 service on Local
Computer Started and then stopped. Some services stop
automatically if they have no work to do, for example the
Performance Logs and Alerts services."

Thanks

What is logged in the application event log?

Try adding -o <filespec> to capture information logged in the engine
console window. Post the file contents after running your tests.

Where do i add the "-o <filespec>"? In the cmd script
.."dbsvc -as -w mtrs8 dbsrv8
> > -c 50m c:\sql8\mtrs8.db" ? or in the dbsrv8 server
startup options?

Thanks.

That's an engine parameter, I would put it after -c 50m.

Adaptive service I get a message now.
"The Adaptive Server Anywhere - mtrs8 service on Local
Computer Started and then stopped. Some services stop
automatically if they have no work to do, for example the
Performance Logs and Alerts services."

Thanks for your help.
