Connectivity problem with IIS 6 mode (Windows 2003) and Sybase SQLAnywhere Web Edition with SQL Anywhere .NET Data Provider (iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere

iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere.SAConnection() ) using aspx.

When I try to connect to Sybase SQLAnywhere Web Edition database from aspx using SQL Anywhere .NET Data Provider (iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere

iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere.SAConnection() ) with IIS 6 mode the connection fails and never get connected to the database. Using the same aspx code and database under IIS 5.1 (Windows XP) everything works fine. I think it might be a compatibility issue with IIS 6 mode and SQL Anywhere .NET Data Provider (iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere.SAConnection() ) under aspx. I don't want to change to IIS 5 isolation mode to possibly solve this issue.

I tried to find a solution searching the web. Many other users have the same problem without anyone suggesting a solution to this issue.

I would like to ask you what is the solution to this issue. Is this a bug or a configuration problem? What is the way to successfully connect to a database of Sybase SQLAnywhere Web Edition SQL Anywhere .NET Data Provider (iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere.SAConnection() ) with IIS 6 mode under aspx.

Please also reply me to my e-mail if you have an answer.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Christos Stavrinou

Hi Christos,

I've responded to sybase.public.sqlanywhere.general. Please do not
cross-post. I've changed the follow-up to

I can recognize this as a version 10+ client, but what's the actual
version and build of the provider? (e.g. 11.0.1.2376)

Does switching to "IIS 5 Isolation Mode" fix the problem on IIS 6.0
though, or is it still failing?

You haven't stated "what" the problem is yet - is it a problem
referencing the provider, is it a runtime error when you try to open a
database, are you seeing an error when running a query...? Are any
exceptions being thrown? If so, what is the .Message being returned?
Have you checked for .InnerExceptions, also? If so, what do those say?

Also:

- How are you referencing the provider in your project?
- How is IIS running? Under which system account?
- What permissions have you given to the IIS user in regards to the
following directories:

e.g.

1. System temporary directory (c:\windows\temp)
2. Current working directory (c:\windows\system32)
3. SQL Anywhere ADO.NET Data Provider assembly directory
(directory where the app and the
iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere.dll are installed)

Note that as part of the load process the ADO.NET provider, we extract a
native .DLL (dbdataXX.dll) for library calls. If this .DLL creation
fails, you will likely receive an Exception such as "SQL Anywhere
ADO.NET Data Provider requires access permissions..." This is a common
configuration problem.

---

Finally, if there are a number of processes all trying to perform the
.DLL extract at the same time, there could be a race-condition. See:
http://search.sybase.com/kbx/changerequests?bug_id=591833 for more
details. (Fixed in 10.0.1.3969, 11.0.1.2325).

Regards,
