Hi,

I'm a networking rookie and have a problem with an internet connection to
ADS. I can connect ot the server remotely and find the share file (NPD) and
find the tables using Explorer when I log into the server.

I have loaded ADS 10.0 on a WHS server and everything works fine with
computers directly connected to the server.

Attached is a view of the configuration settings.

The problem I get is when I try to connect to the database over the
internet. The error I get is 6422 and tells me that the port is not defined
in ADS.ini. I have tried the ip address as 174.97.221.75 and as
174.97.221.75:6262 but get the same error. Name of the DD is NewPlan.add.

ARC running Vista on a laptop.

I have located the ADS.INI (C:\Windows) and do not know how to define the
port. Here's my ADS.INI file:

[Databases]
NewPlan=https://174.97.221.75/BENTLEY/NPS/NASA/New_Plan_System/Data;a

[NewPlan_info]
Username=AdsSys
ServerType=internet
CommunicationType=default
LockingMode=proprietary
CharType=ansi
SecurityMode=ignorerights
DBFTableType=cdx
BlankPassword=no
BackupDestination=
RestoreDestination=
ExpandedNodes=
SchemaTemplatesLocation=
TableMasks=*.adt;*.dbf

Thanks for everybody's help......Bill Bentley

There are a couple of things you need to do.

If you want to use a connection type of "Internet" you need to define a
port for "Internet Port" in the Advantage Configuration Utility.
Currently it is set to 0. Pick for example 2001.

Next you need to fix your path to the database. It should be a normal
style UNC path (strip out the https portion). And Internet Connections
require a DataDictionary for security
[Databases]
NewPlan=\\174.97.221.75\BENTLEY\NPS\NASA\New_Plan_System\Data\DICTIONARY.add

Once done, add the following three lines to your ads.ini as per the help
file on the 6422 error and ads.ini
(note the name in square brackets must match the "server" portion of the
UNC path. In your case you are using an IP rather then a name, but the
same principle applies)

[174.97.221.75]
INTERNET_IP=174.97.221.75
INTERNET_PORT=2001

Another option you have (once you set the port in the configuration
utility) is to use a UNC path that includes the port rather then the
additional three lines in the ads.ini
[Databases]
NewPlan=\\174.97.221.75:2001\BENTLEY\NPS\NASA\New_Plan_System\Data\DICTIONARY.add
