why-o-why sybase put all their customer through the misery
of migrating to 15.x
We could have put the same afforts to move from 12.x to
Oracle rather then moving from 12.x to 15.x

another reason to stay away from the likes of sybase

Are you seriously saying that the effort to convert from ASE 12.x to ASE
15.x is about the same as converting from ASE 12.x to Oracle 11g?
Seriously? I don't consider it to be a credible statement. Note that I
wrote "effort". If it were "cost" then that would be an even greater
disparity.

"Another reason"? I don't se the "first reason" in your short post.

I agree whole-heartedly with Carl.

We've just gone through 12.5.4 to 15.0.3 migrations (production). the
upgrade certainly isn't trivial, but it wasn't an impossible task. There
were some issues (and we still find performance issues), but it would have
been several orders of magnitude worse to move our codebase (several
million lines of T-SQL) to Oracle!

Instead of just complaining, would you care to elaborate on your
experiences?
Or, to reverse the question: why *did* you stay on Sybase? I'm guessing
you must have had a reason....

Oh, please. I migrated a 12.5 server with 1600+ databases
on it, and had very little difficulty doing so. Now I'm running
15.0.3 ESD#3, and couldn't be happier with the performance
and stability.

We converted 30 odd servers (prod/dev/dr), with over 1000
DB's from ASE 12.5.4 to ASE 15.0.3 and had minimal issues.

The big issue was trying to change ASE page size from 2k to
8k.
sybmigrate sucks / does not work.
