i have an additional tempdb - tempdbmon. it is part of the
"default" group. i have two logins bound to it - both of
them have sa role.

when i run dbcc using sa login (sa is NOT bound to
tempdbmon), the tempdbmon is being used instead of tempdb.

why is this so?

is it because tempdbmon is part of the default group?

appreciate the feedback.

Yes -- when you a tempdb group is bound to a login, every time a
conenction for that login comes in, it'll pick one of the tempdbs in the
group in a round-robin fashion. That was one of the ideas behind the
multiple tempdb feature -- spreading tempdb load over a number of
different tempdbs.
