Hi,

I have an application that attempts to update an image in
ASE. This is a wav file and the original insert works, but
sometimes the update fails with no error in application or
ASE log. Any ideas?

Thx,
rick_806

I don't work much with blob/binary/long-text data, so fwiw ...

- how do you know the update fails? (not trying to be snarky, but it's not clear from your post exactly what kind of
failure you're running into)

- how are you performing the update, and what client/application are you using for the front-end?

- has the update ever worked? and if so, what (if anything) has changed since it last worked?

- doe the update ever work? perhaps it works for smaller files, but fails for bigger files?

If the last point is the case, or if the failure is that the
update results in a truncated value (particularly if truncated
to 32KB), see the docs on the SET TEXTSIZE command.

Sometimes the applications don't handle all errors well. I like to run
the failing application thru Ribo or some other tool that will show
everything that the client sends to the server and everything that the
server sends to the client. One can then make a determination what
might be going on.

Ribo is a part of the jConnect distribution. It is a proxy that will
pass data from the client to the server and interpret the results.
Wireshark etc. will do the same thing but not use a proxy.

client --> Ribo ---> server
client <- Ribo <-- server

You can also turn on tds logging in ctlib and jConnect applications so
that a proxy is not needed to capture the tds data.
