Hi,

I'm trying to insert 30 GB into an existing table in an ASE
15.0.3 database as fast as possible. I want to try using
'insert .. select from ' into a ASE 15.5 minimally logged
database, dump the database and load it into an ASE 15.0.3
server.

Does anyone know I can do the load and will it be faster
than a slow bcp?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

you cannot easily load a 15.5 database dump in a 15.0.3 database. It is
possible to use the sp_downgrade sp in 15.5 (

but I would not recommand this kind of operation as part of a treatment.

Don't you have any option for a fast bcp ?

We have indexes on the tables and the tables are quite
large. I want to avoid rebuilding them. Indexed tables have
to use slow bcp

Thanks for your help. Sorry it took me so long to respond.

No worries

If your table has a clustered index then you will do slow bcp. Having
nonclustered indexes should not be a problem to perform fast bcp since
15.0.something.

Is it a one shot treatment or a recurring batch ? Because you could try
to load these data in a table w/o index and 'select into' in a new table
with these new data 'union' the existing ones... do not forget the 'with
sorted_data' that can make create index (unique or pk) much faster.
Depending on the table, you can also use partitionning (even
round-robin) and perform parallel bcp.
Just some thoughts, these may not match your situation.
