hi,

We use currently hibernate with jconn4.jar in direct connection, How do we
connect to a
logical cluster when we don't use interfaces or sql.ini file ?

There are three ways that a login attempt can be re-directed to a
logical cluster:

1) login
a login called "salesUser" is routed to a cluster called
"SalesLC"

sp_cluster logical, 'add', 'SalesLC', 'route', 'login',
'salesUser'

In jConnect just login as user, 'salesUser'

2) appname

sp_cluster logical, 'add', 'SalesLC', 'route', application,
'Sales'

In jConnect set the connection property, 'APPLICATIONNAME' =
"Sales"

3) alias

sp_cluster logical, 'add', 'SalesLC', 'route', alias, 'Sales'

In jConnect set the connection property, 'SERVICENAME' = "Sales"

Thanks !

The documentation isn't clear about alias in cluster edition and jconnect.
In all sample they use client interfaces files/sql.ini and never jdbc...

I agree. The alias option is not used all that much but it certainly
should be made clearer. I have just been putting together some
information on client programming (including jConnect) with CE which I
can get to you. It would be best if you can contact Sybase Tech
Support (open a case) and ask for "CE coding options - spreadsheet"
and jConnect example program. This would illustrate some techniques
and pointers. I would appreciate feedback from people about what is
needed/missing etc.

The white paper has some information, a couple small corrections
needed (e.g. route alias and jConnect) but it is very useful.
