I'm having trouble setting up a linked server connection
from a SQL Server 2005 instance to a Sybase 12.5.0.3
database. I have a successful ODBC connection and an OLE DB
provider data source connection created. But I can't get a
linked server to work.
I tried using ASEOLEDBProvider and got error: "Cannot create
an instance of OLE DB provider...for linked
server...Microsoft SQL ServerError 7302."
I also tried using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC driver
and got error: "...Specified driver could not be loaded due
to system error 126 Sybase ASE ODBC Driver Microsoft SQL
Server Error 7303."
Am I missing something in the configuration?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello

This error means a file is missing. I already had this error in a
similar context and I installed the MDAC on my SQL Server machine. This
is totally related to MS SQL Server configuration.

Hi,

I notice the errors indicate you might be on older OEM ODBC driver/OLEDB
provider. You might consider using the ASE OLE DB provider in the SDK 15.5
version. I see you have ASE 12.5.0.3 so 15.5 won't be included in teh PC
Client.

Anyway as indicated in the other post you might have something missing - I
assume when you tested connectivity you were on the same machine hosting the
MSSQL Server 2005? Maybe the sql server uses a different environment then
the one you use to test connectivity. I'd check on that to make sure.

Thank you,
-Paul

The linked server is working. A reboot of the SQL Server
seems to have done it. I must have set something that needed
the reboot to take affect. MDAC was already installed. I
did test connectivity and it had been ok. So I'm not sure
what it was, but thanks for the ideas.
