I am attempting to run a SQL Server Integration Services
package on a WIndows 2008 R2 64bit server using the 32bit
Sybase driver (15.00.00.356) and get a command timeout
everytime I run the package.

The package executes successfully on a Win XP 32 bit machine
with a slightly older ASE driver (15.00.00.335) but moving
the package to the server to execute results in a Command
timeout on every run.

Can anyone suggest a resolution or next step to solve this
issue?

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks Kevin.

Is this a proven answer to this specific issue or more of a
general recommendation?

Hello,

The 32bit version of SDK 15.0 was certified on Windows 2008 R2:
http://certification.sybase.com/ucr/platformDetail.do?certId=1949&platformId=133&productId=1038

I'm not exactly sure which ESD you are on (isql -v will show it).

There were some bugs fixed in more recent releases (15.0 ESD#18 and
higher) for example:

559883 ODBC Driver by Sybase: When issuing meta-data
calls, the command uses the Login Timeout instead
of Query Timeout.

You may want to post to the ODBC newsgroup because some of the ODBC
support folks might have some additional ideas:

Thanks,
Neal

Hi Matt,

How long does the transaction sit before the timeout message is displayed?
On the 15.0 driver there was a bug:

17949 623804 ODBC Driver by Sybase: When Visual Basic ADO
application explicitly sets CommandTimeout=0
(infinite) on Command object, ODBC Driver still
times out in 180 seconds.

That has since been resolved in the 15.5 codeline - basically with the
current release (SDK 15.5 ESD#07).

Problem occurs whenever the application explicitly sets the CommandTimeout
to 0. Is it possible to obtain an ODBC trace and check on the setting for
the Query timeout?

Anyway, if this is the case you need to update the driver to 15.5 which is
really just a continuation of the 15.0 driver. The nice thing about the
15.5 ESDs - they are complete installs on their own so there's no need to
apply 15.5 GA base first - in fact, if you want, you can update the current
15.0 install since the directory names and filenames remain the same. If
you decide to update I do strongly recommend you have a good back up of your
current Sybase client installation.

Thank you,

-Paul
