It has been ten years since I've worked with Sybase ASE.

What is ASE's clayton's table? That is, the table you select
from when you're not selecting from a table.

In other words, Oracle has DUAL; DB2 has
systables.sysdummy1; what does Sybase ASE have?

Nothing. You don't need a dummy table to simply assign variables, e.g.

select @dateval = getdate()

works fine.
