SQL Anywhere 12.0 on windows XP client.
The deployment wizard was used to create a msi for the 32bit ODBC client.
The error:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2721."

Help.

Michael

Hi Michael,

This may be the result of an erroneous "CustomAction":

http://kb.flexerasoftware.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalID=Q107355

Can you run the MSI with "msiexec /L*v!logfile.txt /i msifile.msi" perhaps?

Regards,

Thanks Jeff for responding.
There is flaw in the deployment wizard which creates the msi. The msi file
size was so small (like 30k) that it was easy to say the msi was incomplete.
A successful msi from v11 db was much larger.

I created the v12 ODBC client manually, usinging the documentation for "how
to".
Hopefully, the development team is listening and will correct the issue.

FWIW: I have had issues with v12 not generating usable MSI files because
of a wrong program being started.
In my case that was due of having used a beta version before (that seem
to have left a start menu item even after the de-installation), possibly
in combination with having a German language setup.

The wrong executable doesn't start a cmd batch, and then the final
creation of the zipped source files does not happen - in my case leaving
MSI files with about 22k.

Once I noticed I had used the wrong icon to start the Deplyoment Wizard
and used the right one, all went well.

So you might make sure that before the UI is displayed, a cmd shell is
opened in the background.

With the current versions I have in use (12.0.1.3329 and above, and
11.0.1.2527 and above), the misplaced program icon is gone, so I can not
reproduce the behaviour anymore...

The command shell window was present. I didn't know what that was about but
left it alone.
Also, it was a clean install of v12 and no other prior installs.
I was working with v12 EBF build 2601. Sounds like this bug is fixed in
later versions.
