FWIW ...

If Sybase wants to be ready for Windows 8 - they better forget PB.net
and make sure that PB classic is WinRT compatible and fully ready to return
to the C++ world:

http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2011/06/windows-8-for-software-developers-the-longhorn-dream-reborn.ars/2

Between WinRT and HTML5 - the end of .NET as a requirement is at hand!

From the same article, paragraph 5 - sentence 1:
"XAML and the WPF-like, Silverlight-like way of developing GUIs are going to
be absolutely central to Windows development in the future. "

Thought that was interesting to repost...

Was about to post the same thing. How is it in one post people think it is
dead and in the other they quote an article that says it's "absolutely
central"?

While those technologies will still be important to MS - I suspect that
these technologies will drop by the wayside given Apple and Google's
enormous HTML5 direction and the market's desire for cross device
application rendering!

Of course, I could be wrong. But, in my defense - one year ago most
postings against my HTML5 prediction said that this technology was not going
anywhere! My what a difference 365 days makes - LOL :-)

Looks like HTML5 all the way is what this developer sees - "using HTML 5

Of course, we need to wait for the official scoop in September! :-)

At this point, I'm ready to shut myself up and wait for an official MS
announcement in September.

And no, the author did not say "HTML5 all the way". He said that it
would ALLOW that. I also find it odd that the author assumes that "Excel
in a Windows 7 desktop" would be a VM inside Win8. Is there any reason
not to think that maybe the "live tiles" are just a wrapper on top of
Win7? Phone vendors build on top of Android to get custom interfaces all
the time. I haven't seen anything yet to make me think "Live Tiles" are
doing one or the other (shell on top of Win7 / Win7 as VM inside Win8).

Hi Jason;

I would just like to point out that this thread is for support of moving
the Classic versions of PB ahead to HTML5 as I suspect well over 90-95% of
PB customers are still using Win32 and plan on staying there for some time
to come. Especially in this new architecture wave that could turn things
upside down from what many thought was the MS direction a few years ago.
:-)

In the mean time .... FYI:

I was simply saying that I don't necessarily agree with you and that I
didn't see your previous linked article (at visualstudiomagazine.com)
supporting your position very strongly.

Again, with such a mind-blowing surprise that Win8/HTML5 seems to be,
I'd rather wait for more solid facts from MS in September before jumping
to conclusions. It's only two months away...
