- in $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE: copy the <oldname>.cfg to <newname>.cfg
(or in $SYBASE if that's where your cfg file is)
- in $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/install :
copy the RUN_<oldname> to RUN_<newname>
- edit the RUN_<newname> file and to a global change of <oldname> into
<newname>
(verify the location of the config file ( -c option of dataserver)
- edit the interfaces file and change the <oldname> into the <newname>
(I would copy the entries belonging to <oldname> under a new server
<newname>
entry so that tools like isql, sqsh can logon to the server using both
names).
- logon to the server and execute :
sp_dropserver <oldname>
go
sp_addserver <newname>, local
- stop the server, start it with the new runserver script.

((what am i missing ???))

You'll have to change interfaces files on other machines as well.
Also if you use @@servername in scripts/procedures/triggers, think about the
consequences.

Do you use replication ? If yes, it will be more complex.

Best Regards,
Luc.

Also remember to rename backupserver, modify RUN_ file,
interfaces file and entry in sysservers using
sp_dropserver/sp_addserver. Also check if you use monitor
and historical server.

Thank you very much for the help. Good thing I did not use
any other server. Only backup server.

Well - that's "just" a hostname lookup problem. If you do an nslookup or
dig for m5000domain1 do you find anything?
Maybe you need to specify the host name differently in your interfaces
file?

Michael

Yep, thanks. I was not able to change the hostname in the
interface. All is working now :)

Hi,

I suddenly came across this error after naming my sybase
instance. "Site <previous name> not found in sysservers,
Sybase error code = 7218". It was looking for my previous
instance name. Any idea what I missed? Thanks.

Do you have any proxy tables defined?
Or any RPCs going out with the old name hard coded?

Michael
