Anyone have a recommendation for a tool besides Visual
Expert? Or tell me if you think V.E. is the best one.

Thanks,

Russ

Hi Russ;

1) VE
2) CAST
3) Nextaweb

I have used CAST and VE. They are both very good.

Look at Dot Net with CodeRush (by DeveloperExpress) - it's
awesome.

Yes, the following is self-promoting. I'm hoping it's also helpful.

Depending on what you're after, PBL Peeper can either do what you're after,
or get you the data exportable so that you can get the information you're
after. There are a few reports that are push button affairs, and the Lists
have options to View/Show... (menu item) more information to customize your
view. Pretty much everything is exportable, and when the container is a
DataWindow, all SaveAs options are available to you. I'll frequently export
as SQL so that I can join the data the way I want. Want to find all grid
DataWindows with column controls thinner than 5 units and haven't been
updated since 2007? Call me a pessimist, but I don't think you'll find a
product that has that report built in. <beg> A printout of all scripts that
belong to command buttons that contain more than 4 non-blank, uncommented
code line (you need to review for putting business logic in GUI
components)? A list of scripts that override scripts from your framework?
(These last two can be done purely within PP with a little work on your
part.)

The good and bad part is that it's no cost to try. Get the latest from
http://www.techno-kitten.com/PreRelease411/setup.exe. (I'm typing on my
phone, so I hope I got that right. It's accurate in my massive signature if
you can find one of those posts from me.) If you've scanned through the
100+ pages of documentation and can't figure out how to get what you're
after, odds are you know how to get hold of the author (eyes wandering up
to the header of the message <g>), and while he's a bit of jerk and feels
no obligation to support a free tool, he's been known to respond to basic
courtesy.

And, to answer a question from elsewhere in the thread, yes it works with
PB.NET code, although it doesn't do as much PB.NET-specific things as I'd
like. Limited number of hours in the day, and like I've said elsewhere, it
is largely to support my own work, and while I've had requests to come work
on PB.NET projects, the timing has never been right so it hasn't happened
yet. It also works on folders exports (PB.NET support is a little more than
that, BTW) so if you need to load old code, say an old version from source
control, and compare it to the current version, that can be done too.

Anyway, I'm not 100% clear what you're after, but maybe PBL Peeper can
help.

Good luck,

Terry and Sequel the techno-kitten
