Hi All,

As Sybase is the Part of SAP now. I am seeing, its new technology, HANA
looks like more closer to ASE in memory database technology.

I am still not able to find the differences and similarities between
these two, and how they are going to help/replace each other in future.

Looking for your insights!

what is SAP HANA, how would a person working as Sybase DBA
know about SAP HANA! Is SAP-HANA freely available to
download and test?

Probably by reading industry press, such as Computerworld
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9199059/SAP_s_HANA_will_speed_real_time_data_analytics
or ITWorld
http://www.itworld.com/software/175885/saps-hana-memory-analytics-engine-now-available
or PCWorld
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/228315/faq_saps_hana_inmemory_computing_platform.html

Or perhaps by attending the SAPPHIRE conference or noticing it
mentioned in the conference agenda for TECHWAVE 2011

Or perhaps by noticing a mention of it in a newsgroup.

To the best of my knowledge, no. I haven't even come across
a way for me to get my hands on it yet. You could try chatting
with an SAP rep - visit the website and an offer to do so should
pop up pretty quickly.

Thanks Bret. As per yours web link, It looks like similar with Oracle
Exadata appliance ( H/W + S/W platform).

HANA is not a database, it is an appliance (hardware + software). SAP
sells these to large customers; a typical HANA installation has 2
Terabyte of memory.
The database software inside HANA is a custom-developed database engine
by SAP, optimized for in-memory handling of analytic workload patterns.
To the best of my knowledge, it is not available for download.

All,

As per IDC Report, SAP would be pushing this HANA technology in ASE & IQ
and our Rep server would be replicating the data from HANA Appliance.

I am not sure if there is any movement in this Area?

If HANA is going to be part Sybase ASE/IQ/REP then it will certainly
enhance the ASE functionality and performance , and we should need to
acquaintance with HANA and need to understand concept behind this SAP's
Technology.

IDC Report :

Thanks
Anshu
