Hi Steven ,

Can you please confirm if Appeon future versions will still going to support

Hi Van,

Of course, Appeon future versions will still support IIS
server and EAServer, etc.

Steven

Hi Steven

Actually , I heard from EA server from Sybase might go as End of Life
support . Is that true that Sybase will still going to deliver their special
version of EA server you guys going forward.

Or else EA server is about to be stopped by Sybase? .. What your take on
this.

On the other hand , MS make take off IIS server in furture when they talk
about Asure / Windows 8 operating systems, I may be wrong on this.. Please
comment if you have anything info on this.

Regards.
Van.

Hi Van;

FWIW: Just set-up and benchmarked a PB 12.1 application deployed to
Apache 2.2 and WebLogic 11g instead of EAServer. This combination ran very
well. So if you are a Linux shop and want to run that combination for
Appeon - this could be a nice alternative. The Apache / WL combination as
worked well on MS-Windows based servers too BTW.

The next combination I want to test is Apache and jBoss. For MS-Windows
based servers, the IIs option is very robust and I would have to say better
than EAServer when running in 64 bit mode.

As far as EAS is concerned, I have not seen it mentioned in PB's roadmap
nor have they released a new version in quite a while (or mentioned one
coming). So your EOL question is a good one. I am not sure if Appeon is the
one to ask though versus Sybase in the EAS General news group. EAS is
falling behind in the Java realm where JDK 1.7 is now released.

Hi Chris,

What you did to run the PowerBuilder in WebLogic + Apache?

You can run the same setup above on Linux?

You used the PowerBuilder Application Server Plug-in?

What version of PowerBuilder you used?

Can you tell me if using the WebLogic + Apache, Appeon can
run the PowerBuilder NVO objects?

I've a big problem to migrate business rules of applications
to Appeon and all our application servers are running Java
and on Linux, making it difficult to deploy the objects on
MS-based servers.

Thank you.

Regards,
Leonardo.

A => No, Appeon converts all your PB code to XML, HTML and jScript. So there
is no need for any PBVM runtime! :-)

A => YES :-)

>
> You used the PowerBuilder Application Server Plug-in?

A => No, *not* required! :-)
Plus Appeon makes your application 64bit compliant too!!!!!

>
> What version of PowerBuilder you used?

A=> Tested with PB 11.5.1 and 12.1 thus far.
Appeon will be releaseing PB 12.5 support in November (I believe)

>

A=> No, you need to deploy these to an Application server like IIs or a J2EE
+ Application Server Plug-in supported environment. This is because you need
to deploy the PBVM runtime DLL's.

- I wish Appeon supported NUVO's! :-(

EAServer is embedded in far too many other Sybase products to be completely
EOL'd. (Including SUP)

Selling it (and marketing it, and supporting it) as a standalone product is
a different animal. I have no official knowledge one way or another, but I
could certainly envision that scenario.
