In Sybase; is there a simple way to extract the DDL of
tables, procedures etc(schema) belonging to a given user?
I do not mean by using Sybase central but by scripting.
tartampion.

ddlgen is a java program part of the ASE server. It can generate DDL for
Sybase ASE (but not sure for Sybase IQ, as its more a Anywhere based
database).
Sybase central is good for reverse-engg DDL.
There is DBSchema available as well.
Finally, Aqua-Data-Studio is a wonderful tool which has a great DDL
extractor (IQ support was added in 8.0), and also a DDL-diff. I
definitely recommend this tool. It has a sybase debugger, but I have not
checked it thoroughly.

If anyone has more opinions on Sybase IQ DDLgen, pls respond..
(There is Sybase control center, which I did eval, but it might have
evolved into a much better product now..)

Not all Co. can adept Aqua Studio, I wish Sybase can do a better job.
Just bundles in a simple command tool just like ddlgen.

Thanks, I ask for the same type tool that you mention, I do
not believe that DLL generation from Sybase central can
fully satisfy the need. I would like to extract DDL
automatically.

Do we need to install specific system SP to IQ server for this?
I did not find the plugin here for Sybase IQ?

Trevor

can you outline brief steps of using 'Squirrel' with IQ. or point to
some docs you know of hand.

(btw, your IQ book is good).

Try the stored procedures here:
http://gvirtz-consulting.com/downloads.html

I have found them to work well. Sometimes I get considerable white space
but I have a very simple shell script to run them and clean up the output
if you need it.
