Hi, due to a corporate move to Dallas, the IT developers (all PB) at my
company are being laid off as of 1/1/12. Some may be retained as contract
employees after that, but the incentive is low to stay, and the contract
length is unknown at this time but believed to be short. Therefore, I am
looking for PB contract work anywhere in the contiguous US. I'd prefer to
work remotely, but I can relocate to the job city, if necessary. East Coast
preferred, but anywhere else is ok except Dallas.

I have 15 years of PB experience, including the PFC. Oracle 10g. Was also a
certified Sybase Advanced Tools instructor back in 2000. Some Java teaching
experience; no commercial field experience.

Will work for Ruby On Rails instruction. Or food.

Hi Larry;

Wow ... what a Christmas bummer! I feel your pain ... in the Canadian
federal government we have been experiencing this downturn in PB application
activity in many departments over the past 3-4 years. :-(

FYI: There is quite a job fair going on LinkedIn under the PB groups.
Also, check out ISUG's "job board" at www.isug.com.

Hi, Chris. I turned down a
work-from-home-but-must-endure-3-months-in-Regina-to-train job because I
never seem to go to Canada in the summer or Spring. I just wasn't in the
mood for -26F days. LOL.

I've got a 2nd interview with CarMax this week for an 8-month contract in
Richmond, VA. If all goes well I start 1/9/2012.

Chris, we just found yesterday that we will start training our replacements
from Dallas next week and through December. We're down to 4 developers and a
manager (from 13 developers). We have a lot to turn over, there's little
documentation, and not everyone knows everything. This is a large app that
runs the entire company's activities, from customer service, shipping,
inventory, the pharmacy, claims, accounting, billing, reports, etc., etc.
Rumor has it that the replacements know little or no PB!!!??? Fun times
ahead. This is why I have to get out fast.

I feel your pain!

I am currently working contract here at a on a Canadian government that
used to have 10 developers on a suite of PB applications. They are now down
to three and one guy just gave his two week notice the other day. Management
does not want to place him (grrrrrr). Looks like a sign of the times all
around North America. People have criticized me in the news groups many
times for stating the downward spiral I see in the Cdn Government as being
a "barometer" of what the IT industry is actually experiencing. Snarky
remarks particularity from Team Sybase members contradicting me - I think -
don't reflect the reality we here in North America are really going through
these days.

I tanked the interview. Too glib. My bad. Haven't had to do one of these for
10+ years now. I'm bummed.
