At the very least, you should include the precise ASE server version.
Also, the query you were running that causes this problem would be
handy. But in most cases you will anyway need to contact Sybase
TechSupport for a conclusive reply sincestack traces like these often
indicate some kind of bug which may be resolved by upgrading to a later
ASE patch level.

Along with what Rob wrote, you may want to verify that the table(s) in
question are not corrupted:

1> dbcc traceon(3604)
2> go

1> dbcc tablealloc(<tablename>, optimized, nofix)
2> go

1> dbcc checktable(<tablename>)
2> go

It is very important that you don't run the dbcc's with fix unless you
know the table has corruption or allocation issues. If it does have
corruption, you may be better off bcp'ing out the table, truncating the
table, bcping the table in.

As Rob wrote, it is probably best to open a ticket with Sybase TechSupport.

I agree with Rob on both points. I can tell from the wording of the
error message that this is a version prior to 12.5.4 #9 or 15.0.3 #1,
as there was a bug in the order parameters were passed to this message
that was fixed by rewording the message in those versions.

The corrected message would read

Invalid column length: 10. Value must be between 0 and 9 at offset 40
for allpages row with minimum row length of 11.

The issue is happening in code that figures out the boundaries
between column values in the raw binary data stored on a page.
The general row format is a few bytes of overhead, then all
the fixed-length column data (with boundaries determined by
the length of the column stored in syscolumns), then the
total length of the row, then the variable length column data
all concatenated together, then a table giving the offsets of
each of the variable length column values, with the length
being determined implicitly by the difference between offsets.

The output below the stacktrace shows the connection is accessing
3 tables - there are SDES structures open for sysobjects, syslogs,
and ftm_transaction_item_audit

select object_name(id), indid from sysindexes where minlen = 11
and object_name(id) in ("sysobjects", "syslogs",
"ftm_transaction_item_audit")

will give you the possible candidates. In 15.7, sysobjects has
2 nonclustered indexes that this message would make sense for,
so I'd run dbcc checktable on sysobjects as a starting point,
and if a corrupt index was reported, probably run sp_fixindex
on it to resolve the issue.

Cheers,
-bret
