Hi there ,

I have successfully installed ASE Sybase 15.0.3 on Windows 7 and cannot ping
the server from DSEDIT.exe as it states : Unable to find an available
protocol driver structure"

Does any one has an idea what does that mean ?... Same installation works on
other Windows 7 machines...

Please help

Regards, Van

Hi Van,

Can you post the entry for your ASE from the ASE sql.ini file and also from
the sql.ini that the client is using

Another thought is maybe the windows 7 is configured for ip6.

Thank you,
-Paul

entry before the comma. It might be a typo. You could edit the "TCP"
to "NLWNSCK" and I suspect this fixes your problem. At one level ASE
was using the "NLWNSCK" and Open Client was using "TCP" they should
both work.

Nope , by using NLWNSCK I can ping but cannot connect .. Same error.
Even thought , if I type my name instead of "NLWNSCK " , I can ping both
ways..

Not sure if that detects these settings while pinging (;

The error "unavailable protocol" is related to the client connectivity
code not decoding the particular protocol like NLWNSCK or TCP.

e.g. I is use something like "NLWXXXXYY" this should get this error.
Did you try removing the entry manually and adding one using dsedit?
At this point I would open a support case with Sybase tech support to
get some assistance diagnosing things.
