advantage database 10.10.0.6 64. rebuilt my aep for 64bit. had some kind
of exception, (this is purely a test and debug environment)
now I would like to replace my aep, so I do, however, ads doesn’t want to
execute the aep anymore.. In arc it just hangs after I press play.

I would prefer to not have to stop and start the ads service

any suggestions?

also tried "cancel query" in arc, this did not work. i.e. after pressing
cancel, the query (execute procedure) still showed as present.

Hello,

Your AEP most likely opened a message box, either with a unhandled exception
or a entry point failure. Since the server runs as a service, the message
box will not be displayed on the desktop. This causes the AEP to hang until
OK or Cancel is pressed on the dialog. Unfortunately I know of no easy way
to get to the message box. To investigate this possibility you could setup
Process Explorer with symbols and then look at server threads. This blog
post does a good job explaining how to make that happen, http://www.msigeek.com/6229/ten-best-practices-troubleshooting-tips-with-process-explorer-tool.

Another method to debug this problem is to stop the service and then run
ADS as an exe. With ADS 7.0 and later, you can use the -exe command-line
option to run ads.exe from a command prompt.

good answer.

unlikely that I would be so dumb to put a messagebox in the aep.

I will check into all of these possibilities.

thanks
Yon

Found whats happening, but why, still don’t know.

We're hanging in the shutdown function of the Aep in the midst of the call
to TAdsAepSessionMgr.FreeDM.

It does not return.

not sure what would cause this.

to be continued...
