Hi
We have OLTP production site with ASE 15.0.2 ESD 6 on Linux
RedHat on EMC storage.
We see two engines (output of 6 engines (out of 8 cores))
all the time 99% busy.
When running sysmon, the results are interesting:
1. Engine 4 and 5 (last two) never yield!
2. Context switch are 99.6% by network!

We are not relating any code, SQL, application, login to
engines and not working with engine classes.
Besides the high CPU usage, in general the system works
fine. SQL statements are running OK.

Can someone advice what can be the reason for this behavior

Was the configuration for number of engines
increased after the server was booted?

Or if ASE was already configured for 6 engines,
were engines 4 and 5 brought online at a later
time than the initial boot?

Are engines 4 and 5 configured to be part of a
different engine group than the others?

Has the behavior persisted through a reboot?

Hi Bret.

Number of online engines are the number of engines on
startup.
On startup there were 6 and never changed by online/offline.

Rebooting the data server is problematic. the server is for
critical tasks for 24*7.
Reboot is our very last option.

Any other idea, what to check? what can be the reason?

Any use of engine groups?
(if memory serves, sp_showcontrolinfo will show them).

Are you using Java in ASE? (sp_configure "enable java")
