Hello,

I would have several questions regarding Sybase Control Center, and do not
know which group is suitable for that product?

Thank You,
Vojislav Depalov

Ok, thanks Kevin,

Well, since I have been working mostly with sql and Sybase Central and if I
understood properly that SAP stopped developing Sybase Central, I wanted to
move to SCC, but I have a problem understanding the concept of SCC, so I
would have some questions:
1. if I install some ASE 15.7 enterprise edition on some UNIX box, is SCC
installed with ASE or do I have to install it separately? If so, what has to
be installed in addition.
2. once when it is installed, does SCC represents the server which can
observe several installations (ASE, IQ, RS) from one box? If so, does other
boxes need to have some SCC installations, or part of them?
3. can I access SCC by using some web browser without having anything from
Sybase installed on client machine? It means, is SCC some web server which
can be access through browser, or is it some client/server application?

I have read through SCC documentation, but I was not able to understand it
completely, so I would like to understand basics(that someone explain it to
me), so I would be able to continue by myself and documentation.

Best regards,
Vojislav Depalov

SCC is a separate installation. You can download it from the Sybase website
at http://downloads.sybase.com (choose Sybase Control Center).

SCC can be installed on a variety of platforms. It can be installed on the
same host as your ASE insallation, but probably best to install on a
separate box, and again, you have several platforms to choose from including
Windows and Linux.

Once installed, you can define one or many ASE, Repservers, IQ instances for
one SCC to manage centrally. SCC is a "server" based application with a web
browser interface, so yes, you can access it from anywhere on your network.
I believe the web server can be apache, or IIS based. Read the
documentation to see which versions of ASE, Repserver, and IQ are supported
by your version of SCC.

The only other parts that might be required are the agents for ASE servers
(Unified Agent for ASE versions 15.7 and earlier, SCC agent for 15.7 ESD#1
and newer). The agent is only required if you use SCC to start/stop ASE or
monitor errorlog info. Other administrative tasks can be done without the
agent.

I'm surprised to hear your confusion with the documentation. It's pretty
clear and straight forward on how to install/configure and manage an SCC
server. Have a look at the installation guide

Hello Kevin,

thank You for answer.

I went to link You send me, but seems that SCC is locked for download. Is
there some free version of SCC or it should be bought?

Also, if SCC is separate installation, what is in directory which is created
during Sybase ASE installation $SYBASE_HOME/SCC-3_2 and there is also a
command for starting "something" (I do not know is it SCC or some agent?) in
directory $SYBASE_HOME/SCC-3_2/bin/scc.sh ? What this command starts?

Best regards,
Vojislav Depalov
