Hello,

I would like the ability for application auditing purposes to be able to
specify that a command operates outside the scope of a transaction.

That is

BEGIN TRAN

INSERT INTO AUDIT(sybs_intrl_sesn_id, rw_crt_ts, rw_crt_prc_id, etc...)
SELECT @@SPID, GETDATE(), SUSER_NAME(), etc...
OUTSIDE TRAN

INSERT INTO TABLE_A (COL001, COL002, etc...)
SELECT "001", "002", etc...

COMMIT TRAN
go

Now, the insert specified for OUTSIDE TRAN will operate outside the
transaction and will have its own implicit transaction wrapped around it.
That being, a rollback tran after the succesful completion of this command
will not rollback this command. And, the other insert will operate in the
scope of the transaction.

Thanks,
Ryan

FWIW, Oracle calls these AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTIONS. They're not
asynchronous btw.

Feature request CR 270817 is open for such an option to be directly
supported.

With a little bit of jiggering to allow ASE to send rpc calls to itself,
you can accomplish this by doing the insert in a traditional (non-cis )
rpc call,
as they operate outside the transaction they are called from.

Great... I will try using CIS and I am glad that Sybase is pursuing
creating a direct approach for this.

Thanks,
Ryan

Note that you have not only have to disable CIS, but also switch off
the config option 'enable xact coordination' to do non-transactional
RPCs.

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback because this makes this not viable for us. I hope
Sybase can get the CR done ASAP because I am looking forward to using the
ability.

Thanks,
Ryan
