Hi @all,

i got a problem with sqlanywhere (version 5.0 and 8.x) and Windows 2000
Server.

I try to connect with Perl, DBI to the database.
My statement is:

$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Sybase:database=SL_NEW_80", "dba", "sql")
|| die "$DBI::errstr";

Now if i try to run the sript, i get the following error message:
"install_driver(Sybase) failed: DBD::Sybase initialize: cs_ctx_alloc()
failed at
C:/Perl/lib/DynaLoader.pm line 225.
Compilation failed in require at (eval 1) line 3."

Does anybody an idea whats going wrong ?

thx
E.

dbd::Sybase is the ASA driver -- is that what you are trying to use? If
so, you would need to install ASE's Open Client libraries and, to talk
to ASA5.x you would need to be running an Open Server Gateway.

To talk to ASA 6.x and above, you can use DBD::ASAny. There is a very
old and out-of-date DBD::SQLAny that will talk to ASA5.x; however, your
best bet for talking to ASA5.x with perl is probably DBD::ODBC.

I believe that should be "dbd::Sybase is the *ASE* driver".

If you do a search on the iAnywhere website for "perl dbd" you
will find the DBD::ASAny driver pages.

Yes, that was what I was trying to say. I guess I type 'ASA' too much
and it just comes out automatically even when I don't want it to :)

You might want to post this question to the sybase.public.sqlanywhere.linux
newsgroup. You will likely find more Perl expertise there.
