There are two existing open feature requests for this functionality, CRs

126588 and 45910.
These can be promoted through the feature request process at
http://www.isug.com

Just for info, I do not think this will EVER happen. It's a year later from
THIS message, and at least one of these requests have been open from the
days of 11.0.2 (Feb 26 1997 to be exact). There has been ample opportunity
to do something as simple as this, never mind ample releases that have come
and gone. Somebody seriously needs to wake up somewhere.

Regards

Carel

I believe the initial efforts behind "select into existing" were going
to cover this. That syntax is currently available (since 12.5.0.1), but
only allows proxy tables as the target. I wouldn't give up on
enhancements to this very soon which actually support real tables as
targets. This could be leveraged to satisfy your request.

Well, you never know. In 12.5.0.2, bug 71471 was fixed (according to the
cover letter). Judging by the 5-digit bug number, this one must have been
quite old as well...

Well, that is possible. The ASE program manager takes customer demand
into
consideration when determining which feature requests to assign
resources to.
There are a number of factors used to judge demand, including
1) results of the ISUG voting process
2) number of technical support cases associated with the CR
3) direct contact from customers
4) feedback from Techwave presentations

I'm not sure of the status in ISUG, there is a dormant request 9510_029
with no voting history; I'd say this indicates that no-one has expressed
an interest in this feature proposal through ISUG for a long time.

The older of the two CRs I mentioned was actually opened in 1993, there
have
been a total of 5 cases associated with them in 9 years - hardly
overwhelming
demand.

So while I can see the usefulness of such a feature, and would certainly
like
to see it myself, I can easily understand why Sybase hasn't implemented
it yet -
the demand for it just isn't evident.

Bret,

Is there a way for us to look through open CRs at all? It would be
useful to see what features are being requested by other customers.
ISUG is great, but doesn't seem to attract a lot of traffic.

AFAIK, there is no public access to the CR database. It contains a lot more than feature
requests.

I'm sure there is. Maybe I should submit a feature request to be able to
see other feature requests... ;-)
