After a few severe db corruptions in past years and having to use
merlins magic to fix (trace flags 3607 3608, single user mode,
hacking sysdatabases.status, etc..), what if sysdatabases (and
possibly other crucial system tables) were done similar to
sysconfigures <-> SERVERNAME.cfg ?

So when things are tough and the server is not starting correctly
for example, you could decide database recovery order and whether
a db should be recovered/marked corrupt, etc.. via editing say
SERVERNAME.sysdatabases.cfg before re-starting ASE.

Sound feasible ? Or have any merit ?

Regards,
Shane

Very interesting! How about something like a utility which will take
a logical backup and a switch for the 'dataserver' to boot-up using
the config.

yep - i definitely like that idea of having an option to start
ASE via a different config. when you've got database recovery
issues... good one !

I vote for the alternate boot via config files as well! Sounds like a great
idea, and its something I could have used many times.
